Here at UK Rail Engineering, we provide consultancy services (amongst our refurbishment and engineering offerings) to assist businesses in the rail industry.
The particular specialty of the company is identifying long standing track faults and rectifying and removing them. Below is a link to some of our previous works to help you understand our potential and the difference we make by putting passengers first.
Project :
Drainage Strategy for CP6.
Problem Statement:
Tight access times, High unit rate due to low volume.
Assessment:
When installing drainage we assessed all the tasks and broke down the methodology to increase efficiencies, one key area that wasted a lot of time was digging with Machine control PC138's (offset boom). This single task had so much time that could be squeezed, if we were to apply some modern technology to the task we could see increase in productivity of up to 40%.
Construction:
3D excavation for cess trench base as per NR_L3_CIV_005 for the desirable design depth of 935mm from rail level and design gradient of 1:200. Centre line excavation corridor created (600mm width) using Trimble Business Centre, Universal Machine Handling to discharge pea gravel rear RRV to select pea gravel material layer and grade to install long sections of twin wall collector drain, UMH to backfill top layer of pea gravel and ballast layer.
Output:
90 metres of drainage achieved within 2 hours by day 4 of trial runs
Review:
Calculations show a reduction of 30% in spoil being generated, therefore; a reduction of 30% for backfill material with huge cost savings on granular material, but most importantly time saved to increase output volume.
Project :
Multiple P-Way Works
Problem Statement :
Over running core works
Assessment:
When undertaking works for our clients, we routinely get asked to cover works at extremely short notice due to unforeseen circumstances on site. Generally these times fall late Sunday evenings or first thing Monday mornings.
Construction:
Once receiving the calls from the clients, our resource manager immediately looks at the staff to assess who has the correct rest periods and where necessary with fatigue management will risk assess the staff to safely undertake the works.
Output:
Can supply staff at short notice periods in localised work areas.
Review:
UK Rail Engineering supplied P-way engineers at late notice to tamp & line the S&C renewal to within design tolerances to allow commissioning of the line(s).
Project:
Installation method using 250t Crane
Problem Statement:
Life expired Asset S&C panels.
Assessment:
When reviewing the delivery for our clients, we routinely get asked on efficient methods of delivery. To prevent installing the S&C loose we tendered for crane hire and contract lift package. This method comes in effective for core works around bank holiday periods where heavy rail plant is exhausted nationwide.
Construction:
Specification required a 400mm excavation (BSB) to accommodate 100mm of compacted sand, Ted4 Geotextile and 300mm base stone installed and compacted (triple pass) in two 150mm layers. S&C panels and associated plain line installed using road crane, plated and tamped to construction standards on the core weekend.
Output:
Pre built S&C panels lifted into position onto the track bed. Using this method had a huge reduction in disruptive access time.
Review:
Compound adjacent to the S&C Renewal.
Removal of redundant material lifted into the compound in 60' panels.
Project:
600 metre plain line Track Renewal
Problem Statement:
Consistent Buckle site
Assessment:
Track Maintainer required immediate solution to prevent the potential of a derailment.
Construction:
Designed using Design route (Vertical) and the Hallade Method (Horizontal), excavated spoil to engineering train on the adjacent line.
60' pre-constructed panels relayed and joints permanently formed, track ballasted and tamped to within design tolerances. The 60' pre-curved rails drilled both ends designed with a lag, the client raised concerns as a risk and reassured the design would fit.
Output:
Installed over 2 core weeks, 300 metres per weekend during disruptive possessions with programme time savings in not drilling and Cold bolt expansion on the core works.
Review:
With an simplistic design the track Geometry consisted of two 300 metre Radius curves joined by a reverse point. To date no track movement has occurred in this location.
Project:
Project Planning and validations carried out for LNW, CP6.
Problem Statement:
Poor track quality that has exceeded its life cycle or showing deterioration in quality.
Assessment:
To assess track components and geometry to understand and present feasible option selections whilst considering budget and access.
Construction:
Planning complex S&C Renewals and validation of S&C medium refurbishments,
Re-railing upgrades for approval by the RAM Team.
Output:
Review:
